Ebb Tide
Pulp painting on Gampi, Nepalese style (2012)

This is an abstract piece suggestive of an outgoing tide. The basic sheet was formed by pouring gampi pulp into a floating mould in the Nepalese style. Colored cotton fibers were then added to 'paint' the image.

This piece depicts the four seasons. Kozo sheets were pulled with a sugeta, in the Japanese style, then 'painted' with mitsumata, cotton and hand beaten kozo fibers. Natural plant ephemera was added, held in place by the dried fibers. Each panel is unique. Edition of four. |

Salt marsh cord grass (Spartina alterniflora) sheets were pulled with a sugeta, in the Japanese style, then 'painted' with cotton and southern sweet grass (Muhlenbergia filipes) fibers. Natural plant ephemera gathered from the salt marsh at Knowles Island, South Carolina, was added, held in place by the dried fibers. Edition of six. |
